(From 2009 Article) “On July 8, 2009, Jim experienced an Arterial Venous Malformation (AVM). Similar to a stroke, the AVM affected Jim’s ability to walk, talk and function independently.” Courtesy of the Rehabilitation Institute, Jim received physical, occupational and speech therapy to regain his lost abilities.  Mostly having to work with his non-dominant hand, the studio paintings  that resulted (starting in 2009) certainly demonstrate a knowledge of the medium that he acquired in his 5 decades of studio work.

Over 30 of these original studio works currently remain in our traveling collection for display and sale (online) during the month of February 2023 at Lexitas Legal Services (1608 Locust, KCMO).

A special note regarding the paintings on display:

Painted using his non-dominant right hand, many of watercolors on display were generated from enlarged photographs due to Jim’s failing eyesight, a result of macular degeneration.  Occasionally Jim would simply choose to revisit a particular favorite painting from his personal collection, while a select few of these works were simply composed from his own imagination, allowing him to continue to practice his mastery of the medium of watercolor and demonstrate his resolve to not give in to his continued physical limitations.
