Colorado Treasures

Starting in the mid-60’s, my late father JR ‘Jim’ Hamil (1937-2022) would visit the colorful Centennial State as a professional artist working at Hallmark Cards. Those annual trips to the Aspen Design Conference were the catalyst that would draw Jim further into the mountains and where he would photograph its exquisite landscapes, roaring mountain streams and where he would be encouraged by fellow artists to visit, time and again, conducting workshops and demos in watercolor.

The brother’s, Jim and Dave (Jim’s younger brother) found considerable favor in returning to Colorado early in their adult careers. Dave eventually abandoned collegial studies in lieu of being a professional musician performing in Denver and eventually Aspen as a folk singer and talented banjo player before choosing to settle in Taos, New Mexico in the early 70’s. Jim, after several trips to the Rockies, would co-op a condo in Steamboat in 1973 in order to present summer demos and host plein air workshops adding countless watercolor originals to his portfolio.

With the purchase of the Storm Meadows condominium as his home base, Jim’s love for Colorado continued to build and over the 35+ years later. Jim never missed spending a summer in Steamboat. Including the later studio works, Jim’s countless collection of originals were whittled down to 100 works. Colorado Treasures was published in 2010 (Lowell Press) and several of those originals are now being made available for sale. To supplement those originals already sold, a countless number of signed and unsigned prints are also being offered for sale. We hope to make those available soon.

All works for sale are in their ‘as is’ condition. Works are currently displayed in their original frames. It is suggested that works behind glass should have new mattes in order to preserve their archival quality. U/V glass is a modern approach to replacing the current ‘older’ glass and will minimize glare and fading. No works should ever be displayed in direct sunlight. For those works that have been U/V coated (sprayed) and are without glass, we can handle doing a slight reframing to better secure the work and we will handle this for you at no additional cost. A Certificate of Authenticity will be provided with every work SOLD! We will be sure to contact you for upcoming shows and as other works eventually become available.
